Awestruck Definition Cream

Product Description

Many moisturizing styling creams fall short when it comes to hold. As a result, those needing extra definition often layer on gel or go without, feeling underwhelmed by the results.

Today’s curls also need protection from environmental aggressors like pollution, heat, and UV rays.

Meet your curls new BFF: a lightweight styling cream that does it all. It glides on like a dream, delivering just the right amount of hold (level 6!) with a soft, flexible cast. Powered by GEL TRAP™ technology, our innovative Gel-in-Oil emulsion delivers the deep nourishment of a serum and the definition of a styling gel. It deeply hydrates, nourishes, and defines curls while keeping frizz in check, up to 72 hours*, even in high humidity.

The formula is expertly balanced to condition without weighing hair down, allowing for natural bounce and movement. With built-in heat and UV protection, it provides 360° protection to your curls*, helping defend curls against daily aggressors for healthy-looking curls.

How to use

Step 1

Take a small amount of cream. Start with a dime-size and add up if needed - a little goes a long way!

Step 2

Rake the cream through soaking wet hair, making sure you are evenly distributing it and coating every strand. Use the 'praying hands' method to smooth the strands. This helps sealing cuticles and reducing frizz!

Step 3

Select your desired styling method (scrunch/fingercurls/shingle) to enhance and define.

Step 4

Air dry or diffuse for a loose, soft style or follow with a strong hold styler for longer lasting definition.

Reviews

I’m loving it!

"I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have fine, thin hair that’s been ravaged by chronic illness and I wasn’t sure if the definition cream would be too heavy for my hair. My curls look amazing! I follow my usual routine and use the Awestruck Definition Cream as my last step, air dry, then break the cast with the diffuser. My curls have never looked better. Curlsmith takes my hair to the next level each time. Thank you!"

Lightweight cream for my fine curls

"Wow, I stopped using regular curl creams because it was too heavy for my fine curls, however this does not weigh my hair down and works great at keeping the frizz down. Highly recommend this product."

Hannah G. (5/5)

One-and-done potential. . .

"This product has less hold than I was expecting. I had to apply much more of this than I ever would for a regular curl cream, but luckily it was surprisingly lightweight and didn't weight down my long, somewhat fine textured curls which are low-med density. Otherwise, I applied it just like I would a curl cream: I brushed it through and then scrunched in foam and/or gel on top. If you like decent hold & a good cast, just be prepared for this for give you the hold you want by itself. For those that tend to avoid gels & products that give a good cast, but your curls tend to not last long, then you might like this as a single styler. It smells nice, like watermelon and dragon fruit"

Definition Cream

"It didn't weigh my hair down (I have light hair) and it definitely defined my curls!"

Natural Kinky Coily Women of Color (4CC🙂)

"I recently wrote a review about the awestruck crème and curl conditioning oil n crème … I want to add that in addition to these two products for my daily hair regiment I use the bonding oil which is also amazing and not greasy to the touch 1. Bonding oil first on dry hair 2. Wet a little and then apply oil in crème and awesome definition crème"

This may be the best product I use!

"I love this! I apply on wet hair and either leave to drive naturally or add a touch of Curlsmith gel for a different look and more definition and diffuse. It keeps my curls and prevents frizz."

Caitlin A. (5/5)

Good hold and Great definition

"This product smells great, gives decent hold and leaves my curls defined. I live in the South and on our super humid days I would still reach for an extra strong hold gel to keep my 3C curle defined and moisturized"

Natasha S. (4/5)

Lovely soft definition

"I have wavy hair that needs gel to stop frizz and keep definition. I don’t like my hair feeling slimy from a sensory perspective so have been on the lookout for an alternative. I am so pleased with this as it’s a cream and it feels good. No slime! It dries with a slight cast and offers really nice wave definition. I’m really pleased with the result."

Audrey W. (5/5)

Awestruck cream

"It worked really well with my wavy thin hair. I liked that it did leave a heavy cast. But I didnt like the smell as much. I am not sure if the mushroom in this is why it smells a bit yucky. But liked the way it gave my hair a look of being thicker."

Robin M. (5/5)

Awestruck, indeed!

"The new Awestruck Definition Cream is fantastic! I've been able to do away with both my styling gel and mousse, making my post-shower process one step faster."

Q&A

Which ingredients in the Awestruck Definition Cream provide heat protection? And up to what temperature? Also, will the Awestruck Definition Cream interfere with the hard cast created by the In-Shower Style Fixer?
Hi Jen, Thanks so much for reaching out—we’re happy to clarify The Awestruck Definition Cream contains heat-protective botanical ingredients that help shield the hair during heat styling. It will not interfere with the hard cast created by the In-Shower Style Fixer. For best results, we recommend applying the Awestruck Definition Cream first for moisture and definition, then layering the In-Shower Style Fixer on top to create and lock in the cast. Please let us know if you have any other questions—we’re always glad to help! Thanks, Curlsmith
I never use heat on my hair. Would it be OK to use this product and let my hair air dry?
Hi Nyree, Thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can absolutely use the Awestruck Definition Cream without heat. It works great on air-dried hair—just apply to damp hair and let it dry naturally for definition and softness. Let us know if you have any other questions! Thanks, Curlsmith
Hi! I’m a big fan of your In Shower Style gel and am looking for a styling cream as an alternative styling product. Does this product contain any protein in it? Also, does it work well for 3c hair? Thanks !
Hi Alanna, Thanks for your feedback. We’re so glad you love our In-Shower Style Fixer! The Awestruck Definition Cream does not contain protein—it’s a moisturizing styling cream that helps enhance definition and control frizz. It works great for 3C hair, adding soft hold and shine without stiffness. Let us know if you have additional questions. Thanks, Curlsmith
Hi, what is the scent in this, it's so zingy! Pomelo?
Hi Ceri, Thanks for reaching out to us. The Awestruck Definition Cream has a fresh, citrusy scent with notes of pomelo and a hint of zesty fruit — that’s likely the “zing” you’re noticing! It’s designed to smell uplifting and clean without being overpowering. Let us know if you have further question. You can reach out to us at hello@curlsmith.com. Thanks, Curlsmith
Does this product have the same strong scent as Hold Me Softly Styling Balm? I’m looking for a styler that is both protein-free and fragrance-free. Currently trying out the fragrance-free leave-in conditioner, which also seems to be low-protein.
Hi Cathy, Thanks for reaching out! The Awestruck Definition Cream does have a light, fresh scent—it's not as strong as the Hold Me Softly Styling Balm. However, it’s not fragrance-free. If you’re looking for a completely fragrance-free and low-protein styler, our Fragrance-Free Leave-In would be a better fit. Let us know if you have further questions. You can reach out to us at hello@curlsmith.com. Thanks, Curlsmith
Hi is this suitable for fine wavy hair or just proper curls please?
Hi K, Thanks for reaching out! The Awestruck Definition Cream works well for both curls and waves, including fine wavy hair. It’s lightweight enough not to weigh your hair down while still giving great definition and hold. If you have additional question you can reach out to us. Thanks, Curlsmith
I read to apply the leave-in conditioner on mids to ends to avoid scalp buildup. Should Awestruck Definition cream also only be applied on mids to ends when raking in?
Hi Ann, Great question! Yes, just like leave-in conditioner, we recommend applying the Awestruck Definition Cream mainly from the mid-lengths to ends to avoid any potential buildup at the scalp. This will help give you definition and moisture where your hair needs it most. If you have additional questions. Please reach out to hello@curlsmith.com. Thanks, Curlsmith
What step is this? Does it also take the place of a leave-in conditioner (like the Air Dry Cream), or do you recommend using it after a leave-in?
Hi Amber, Thank you for reaching out! The Awestruck Definition Cream is a styler, so we recommend applying it after your leave-in conditioner for the best results. It doesn’t replace a leave-in (like the Weightless Air Dry Cream), but the two work great together to provide both moisture and definition. Let us know if you have additional questions. Thanks, Curlsmith
Which products complement this cream if you need more hold? I like that this product has a “bouncy hold” and seems to give shine but I have finer 2b waves. On its own (with a volumizer at roots only) it allows me to wear my hair semi-straight using a minimal amount of towel scrunching and diffusing. I want to try curls!
Hi Bee, Thank you for reaching out! The Awestruck Definition Cream is great for soft, bouncy hold and shine. If you’re looking for extra hold for your finer 2b waves, we recommend layering it with a gel such as our Hydro Style Flexi Jelly or In-Shower Style Fixer. You can apply the cream first for definition and softness, then add the gel to lock in your curls and help them last longer. This combo should give you the best of both worlds—shine, definition, and stronger hold for trying out curls! Let us know if you have additional questions. Thanks, Curlsmith
Still learning, I've been using mousse after my leave in condiitioner curl cream. Is this cream considered a leave in conditioning cream? Since it provides hold do I need a mousse with it?
Hi Ann, Thanks for reaching out! The Awestruck Definition Cream is not a leave-in conditioner—it’s a styling cream designed to define and smooth while giving light, bouncy hold. We recommend applying it after your leave-in. Since it already provides hold, you may not need mousse, but if you like extra volume or stronger hold, you can absolutely layer a mousse on top. It really depends on the look and feel you prefer. Let us know if you have additional questions. Thanks, Curlsmith
